Cumbria Youth Orchestra Website

Cumbria Youth Orchestra Society

We provide opportunities for children and young people of Cumbria to work with a professional conductor and professional instrumental teachers on an orchestral repertoire of a higher level than is usually possible locally.

CYOS organises rehearsals, concert programmes and books concert venues for both CYO and CYTO and also organizes an annual residential course for CYO.  We also undertake fundraising to support our core activities and specific projects.  If funds permit, we offer bursaries to mitigate the costs of individual membership fees to allow players of families of more limited means access to our programmes.

CYOS was originally a support group for CYO.  However, in 1993, the Music Service in Cumbria ceased to be centrally funded and CYOS took on the management and administration of the orchestra.  We received charitable status in 1997.

We have a small committee which meets regularly throughout the year.  We would welcome any new members to the committee.

For any enquiries regarding the Society or the Orchestra please contact either Noel Bertram (course Director) or Martin Ulyatt (Chairman).

David Hart

David got involved with the CYO and CYOS when his daughter joined and played violin 6 years ago.  He was treasurer of the society for 3 years and then became the chairman until this season when Martin took over.  Thanks to David for all his hard work over the last 6 years.
