 About the CYTO.....

What is the Cumbria Youth Training Orchestra (CYTO)?

The CYTO was formed in 1998 to give younger players the experience of playing in an orchestra.  It's aim is to give orchestral experience to those players not yet at the required entry standard for the CYO with a view to them joining the CYO in the future.  They can then join the CYO with enough orchestral experience to settle in quickly and easily.

Recent performances have included the pieces: Johann Pachebel's Canon in D, the suite by Arcangelo Corelli, the Clarkson Centennial Overture by Robert Wasburn and Take Five by Paul Desmond.

The Conductor - Noel Bertram

Noel started his professional career a a freelance trombonist in Scotland working with Scottish Opera and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.  After a spell as co-principal trombonist of the Central band of the Royal Air Force and a year's postgraduate study at the Royal College of Music, he moved to Cumbria in 1985.  His conducting career started in 1986 when he was appointed Musical Director of the Westmorland Youth Orchestra, a post he still holds.  He has been working with the CYO since 1989 and founded the CYTO in 1998.  He is now Head of Music for Cumbria's Learning Support Service.
